Announcing nominations for the 2010 KIDS Gift Award and Professional Impact Award.

NEW DEADLINE:  AUGUST 31, 2010

The KIDS Gift Award (Kids who Individually Discovered Success) recognizes a special student grades 6-12 who has exemplified the characteristics of creativity, perseverance, a role model to their peers, enjoys helping others and/or a special talent. Please complete the nomination form for each entry.

The Professional Impact Award, recognizes an educator, therapist, doctor or caretaker who has impacted children with learning differences within the Atlanta community in a special way.

2010 KIDS Gift Award for Kids who Individually Discovered Success

2010 KIDS Gift Award Criteria:

  1. Students between sixth and 12th grade who have a diagnosis of a learning difference
  2. Students who possess one or more unique qualities including, but not limited to: creativity, perseverance, role model to their peers, special talent or enjoys helping others
  3. Resident of Georgia
  4. Attends a public school, private school or homeschooled
  5. Nominated by an educator, parent, doctor, therapist, coach, friend or family member

Download a nomination form for the 2010 KIDS Gift Award or email ldaga@bellsouth.net for more information. Please provide the following information in the email: Name of student, age, grade, school attending or homeschool.

Nomination deadline is August 31, 2010.

Winners will be announced on the Kids Enabled Web site in September and the award will be presented at the fall LDAG conference.

2010 Professional Impact Award

2010 KIDS Gift AwardThe Professional Impact Award honors professionals for the good they do in the lives of families with learning differences.

Nominate the professional who has positively impacted your experience with a learning difference.

Present a letter of nomination as well as a brief biography of your nominee. You may solicit others to add their letters of commendation as well. All nomination material must be sent at the same time.

Nomination deadline is August 31, 2010.

Profiles of Past KIDS Award Winners:

2007

Alizah Kreisberg showed a strong willingness to advocate for herself which enabled her to work through her learning challenges and graduate from high school with a technical/career prep diploma. She enjoys graphic design and has a passion for helping others.

2008

Emily Ann Swinn was born with mitochondrial disease. She is challenged by seizures, processing and learning disabilities, severe lethargy and ataxia. Her activities include dance, writing poetry, volunteering, fundraising and speaking to groups about her struggles and success.

2009

Eric Sweet is challenged by motor skill deficits and autism. He is involved in Special Olympics as both an athlete and an assistant coach, and he has made appearances to help promote this important sports program. Eric is an accomplished chef and volunteers with Hebron Baptist Church, where he helps with vacation Bible school, food drives, and delivering Thanksgiving meals.

Professional Impact Award

2009

Sheryl K. Pruitt, M.Ed, EP/T is founder and clinical director of Parkaire Consultants. As an author and speaker, Sherry educates children, adolescents and adults about neurological disorders and coping skills needed to remediate the deficit area caused by these disorders. At Parkaire Consultants, a clinic that serves children and adults with neurological disorders, Sherry uses her passion and knowledge from years of experience, as well as raising her own children with neurological disorders, to help her clients. From advising families on the educational impact of these disorders on learning, behavior and socialization to co-leading groups of adolescents that promote social skills and transitioning into post-secondary placement, Sherry is a true professional who has impacted the Atlanta learning differences community.
