A Fair to Remember in 2012

What’s the number one reason to attend the Kids Enabled Resource Fair? What do you get when you combine over 250 concerned and motivated parents with 60 dedicated and experienced professionals?

The 2012 Kids Enabled Resource Fair!

As a Resource Fair volunteer and KE staff member, I wandered the “neighborhood streets” and was so encouraged by the conversations I heard between parents and professionals:

“Wow! You can do that?”
“Yes, we do have openings in our programs.”
“My kid would love this.”
“I think this could work!”
“Yes, we can attend school meetings with you.”
“I didn’t even know this was available.”
“This makes changing my child’s diet almost easy!”

Given the diversity and variability of learning differences, many parents were surprised and happy to find resources that were a great “fit” for their child’s unique needs.

Along with six speakers who enlightened eager listeners on diagnoses and treatments from autism to dyslexia and ADHD, fair attendees were treated to a celebrity sighting! The First Lady of Georgia, Sandra Deal, made an appearance, offered some words of encouragement to the attendees, and strolled the “streets,” where she was very impressed with the availability of such a wide range of professional services and academic options.

I left the fair feeling grateful for Kids Enabled, grateful that there are so many professionals and specialists available to help children with such diverse needs, and that parents today have so many more options than just a generation before them.

From the comments on the surveys – “fantastic event,” “keep doing what you are doing,” “wonderful opportunities…and new programs I had not heard of” – the attendees clearly agree that it was indeed a fair to remember!
