Kids Enabled magazine wins five Gamma awards including Gold for Best Feature.

ATLANTA, Georgia, May 22, 2009 – Beth McGaw, publisher and co-founder of Kids Enabled magazine, is proud to receive five Gamma awards for publishing excellence presented by the Magazine Association of the South (MAGS).

In their category, Kids Enabled won Gold for “A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words,” which drew praise from the MAGS judges: “The up-close editorial approach, showcasing the crucial barrier-breaking force art can accomplish for ‘non-mainstream’ kids, offers information, insight and hope at a level one guesses would have not been achievable in a more mundane, conventional format.” Kids Enabled also won Bronze for “Reading is Easier Said Than Done,” Honorable Mention for “The Marriage of Neuroscience and Educational Strategies,” Best Cover Honorable Mention for the 2008 winter issue, and Silver in General Excellence.

Kids Enabled was founded in 2005 by two mothers who realized the need in the Atlanta area for a publication for parents of children with learning differences. The mission of the magazine addresses learning differences on the neurological disorder spectrum that can include minor speech delays, dyslexia, auditory processing, ADHD, and autism. The range of editorial features and departments focus on speech therapy, occupational therapy, social skills, innovative interventions, school programs and success stories. Distribution has grown from 5,000 to 20,000, and Kids Enabled remains the only resource of its kind, offering information and advice to the learning difference community.

McGaw says, “I hope parents will feel empowered to advocate for their children from reading the pertinent and informative editorial and from using the Kids Enabled resource directory. Kids Enabled’s mission is to offer parents and professionals choices to help children with learning differences reach their full potential.”
